From there - I discovered the world of self-hosting. Papra for my documentation management; gist for sharing/storing notes/recipes/you
name it; a self-hosted bookmark app; self-hosted blog. All happily running in individual Docker containers on my little sub $100 PC.

I want to look more into documentation and bookmark management. I've
gone on a scanning bender and scanned/shredded a ton of papers. It'd be
nice to have flexible tags and search for my documents at home.
I have a homelab already, use it mostly for hosting the BBS and
creating test environments at work. Been wanting to build in more
self-hosted data tools, though.
I don't see any homelab sub on tqw... is my echo list outdated, or you're thinking of some other network?

Isn't it sad that a majority of people out there only know of using platforms and 3rd party things for all this? They've never known anything else!
I feel as if you have been born in the 90s forward, you were never given a chance to explore/build your own/run your own. By the time you were a teenager forward everything was going "online". People thought it was normal to pay $5.99/month for this and that, then $12.99 a month, and now $29.99/month.

MeaTLoTioN repurposed the TQW_DOCKER echo for Homelab Discussion, but didn't change the name of it (yet).
"I have left the echo tag as TQW_DOCKER for now, but I do intend on changing it at some point to TQW_HOMELAB - I will send out some notice when I do have a date in mind."
This was a little over a year ago.
Well.... I saw in a post from someone else that the "DOCKER" sub was repurposed to "HOMELAB", but the echo/tag name hasn't been updated yet
(for some reason).

It is easier to change the description, without breaking any routings, than it is to change the tag.

It really irks me that our IT guy at work may have to setup a Onedrive cloud storage system for our documents instead of a simple onsite FTP server. Heck, even a simple mapped network drive would be fine.

Sounds good! I'm on limited internet for the next few days. Our trailer roof caved in over the winter and the whole unit filled with black mold.

replace one toilet that was on the water company's evil list for
needing some ungodly amount of water to flush. We replaced it with a
basic toilet from Home Depot that was free after rebates from the
water company.

I just followed you -- cyberspace.online is an interesting place. I'm
seeing other sites popping up to create oases for creative types to
collaborate. One group that's done a lot of documentation is Dark
Forest, dfos.com. It feels a little "walled garden"-esque, like a
modern day AOL. With curated membership and a specific focus, they
feel more like a collaborative space.
Does the "curated" membership mean that you have to love Pumpkin Spice Lattes, have a man-bun, and wear skinny-jeans to qualify? Oh, and drive
an EV, of course.

It would be cool if cyberspace.online's site supported a text browser,
or if there was a lite.cybespace.online site or something. Oh well,
it'll have to wait until I get to a newer computer.

I guess, sort of, yes. The draw for that site I think is that its a Web 1.0 version of it and they purposefully did not include things like: ads, videos, > algorithms, suggestions, like buttons, tracking, crypto, bots, etc.
And haven't been on there now for a while, I can definitely see how it differs from BBSing. I wouldn't stop BBSing for it because the way people communicate on it is still very "social media" like. For example I notice people sometimes use it more like a diary, or to post just random stuff, or to just say how they're feeling, or rant post, or say what they are eating. > You do get quality posts sometimes, but it does still have that "social media > lite" type of feeling. BBSing I noticed on the other hand seems to be full of > posts (for the most part) purposefully intended to evoke
discussion/conversation.
How can you possibly like this site?
It looks lke website with fake ai posts.
