There is also the mobile barrier... BBS systems are just not designed for mobile interaction.
BinkterPHP seems to be a good approach for the mobile-device user.
I'm sure that the interface can even be adjusted to mimic the style of X or facebook.
Synchronet works well for me. I think the design could be improved for mobile devices, but that would just take a little CSS/HTML work.
A few years ago I worked on a Fediverse/Echomail bridge which could bridge one network into Mastodon/Friendica/Etc. However, I realized that things would get too chaotic, too many messages, etc. So I dropped development. I still have random messages sitting in my echomail base from Mastodon posts while testing.
